3 Unavoidable Steps To Building A Life You Don’t Need A Vacation From

When I was 23 years old, I read a little ol’ book called “The Four Hour Workweek” that taught me more about business than my entire three years working towards my B.A. in business.

Up until this point, I just wanted to be financially wealthy…because it sounded a whole lot better than being broke. Ultimately, I wanted freedom. Freedom to choose my schedule, choose who I spend time with, choose where I live, choose what I create.

And I knew this was only possible with a business.

In the 4HWW, Tim Ferris talks a lot about being and doing over having. Building time leverage with a consumable product- online. And being wise with that time.

…You don’t need to spend 8 hours/day in a cube to get the right amount of work done.

Nowadays, I earn a 6-figure income working about 20-hour work weeks; 70% spent with team/clients, 30% spent planning & creating. I’ve found this to be much more fulfilling than just cruising at 4 hours/week…but of course, I absolutely love what I do.

This freedom not only allows me to wake up daily and ask, “God, what would be the best use of my time today?”- but it allows me to truly build my life with my husband…

Instead of being weighed down by debt for the next decade, we crushed $95,000 of debt together and don’t owe anything to anybody.

Instead of humping it in awful traffic 5 days/week, we do the majority of our work from our laptop and phone.

Instead of being told, “Oh, sorry, you can’t take that many vacation days…” we will be spending the majority of 2016 living abroad while continuing to mentor our team and create inspiration.

We didn’t get lucky; we got intentional.

Here are the 3 unavoidable steps to building a life you don’t need a vacation from:

1. Clearly define what success looks like to you.

There is not a “one size fits all” for success; it is truly up to you and what will be the most fulfilling use of your time on this planet.

When I started peeling back the layers of what I really wanted, it always came back to how I felt and who I was with- not necessarily the things I had acquired. Something that always sticks with me is this: at the end of your life, the things that will have truly mattered and made a difference are:

1) The people you meet.

2) The books that you read.

3) The places you go.

If you woke up tomorrow and were living your “dream” life, what would that look like?

2. Identify the best business opportunity for your definition of success.

Most likely, your dream life does not involve working 60 hours/week at a job. And the way I look at it, the only way to “buy” your freedom is to start a side-hustle.

I call it a side-hustle because most people are not in a position to completely unplug from their main income source. But what is the right side-hustle for you? This choice depends largely on how you define success.

If success for you means spending more time with family than on your business, perhaps opening a store-front that requires you to physically open it 7 days/week is not the wisest choice. If success for you means not going into further debt, perhaps you need an opportunity with a low start-up investment.

3. Find someone who is already doing it and learn from them.

Starting a business is hard. Starting a business without a mentor is even harder.

I cannot stress enough the importance of locking arms with someone who already has the fruit in their life you are looking for. You need them to celebrate the victories with, and to talk through the disappointments. You need them for confidence and belief. You need them because they have already been there and have felt what you’re going to feel.

You need them because they can offer you a fast track around the obstacles they already endured.

Are you in the first year of your business and ready to take it to the next level?

Here’s what a recent champion client had to say:

“Before I started working with Angie, I was in a cloud of indecision and confusion, really going through a tough time.  Angie helped me to peel back the layers to figure out what we really wanted as a family and how to make that happen with goals and deadlines.  We are on track to double our income this year and finally pay off our debt.  The biggest transformation I have had with Angie is to learn to think outside of the box and to dream bigger.  If your thinking of doing her #hustlesmarterbootcamp you will not be disappointed, she is a true inspiration and shows you how to have the life you’ve always wanted.”

Building a life you don’t need a vacation from isn’t easy. But then again, living a life just for the weekend isn’t easy, either.

I’m here to encourage you on this quest because believe me- it will be worth it!!!
